in THE BEGINNING
In the early 1970's Peter Rohmann developed an initial roof
evaluation program for the North York Board of Education. At that time,
the Board managed about 200 schools and needed to come up with a quick
and simple method of evaluating their roofs. The program developed by us
was very simple, involving the preparation of a roof plan showing all of
the roof areas and approximate roof drain locations. The roof plan
included a one page legend that listed some 23 or 24 deficiencies and
about 4 roof categories and these would be attached to each roof area.
This simple plan permitted the Board to prioritize roof repairs and/or
roof replacement and the allocation of budgets, all at a minimal cost
since each roof assessment only involved a quick walkover and visual
inspection.
